Rangers manager Steven Gerrard claims that the club are very close to signing a midfielder, with an announcement possible before tomorrow’s game against FC Alashkert.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League qualifier, Gerrard revealed that the Light Blues are on the verge of bringing in a new player:
“We’re trying to make an addition in midfield. The progress is really good, it’s strong, I’m hoping to have some news in the coming days. We might have something to say by Thursday’s game.”
Gerrard did not reveal the identity of the player but reports in the Scottish media have said that Huddersfield’s Juninho Bacuna is expected to join the Gers.
Responding to a question on Twitter, reliable journalist Alan Nixon said negotiations over signing the 24-year-old were at an “advanced” stage:

Bacuna has been a long-term target for Rangers Director of Football Ross Wilson, who had a previous stint with Huddersfield. An attempt was originally made to snap up the Curacao international last October but a deal never materialised.
The attacking midfielder is unlikely to cost a lot, as his deal at the John Smith’s Stadium was due to expire at the end of the season.
