Four Reasons Why Rangers Should Take A Risk And Make A Move For Cut Price Southampton Ace

The Ibrox Stadium.

Southampton winger Sofiane Boufal could be available for as little as €4m (£3.5m) with the 26-year-old within the final year of his contract at St Mary’s, according to reports in France.

The Moroccan international was signed by current Rangers Director of Football Ross Wilson when he was still with the Saints and, taking that into account, there is a slight possibility that the Light Blues could be interested in the player.

Boufal has flattered to deceive for most of his time in England but with the Gers keen on signing another winger before the transfer window shuts, it would be unwise to ignore the talent the midfielder possesses.

Press the next page as we go through four reasons why Rangers should take a risk on the Moroccan.

Boufal provides the unpredictability that the Bears are lacking

The winger has superb dribbling ability and earlier this year, he was handed the goal of the decade for his superb solo goal for Southampton against West Brom.

With Rangers looking to unlock deep-lying defences, Boufal would provide manager Steven Gerrard with a perfect wild card option, who could spark a game into life with just one run or one pass.

He has pace to burn

One of the biggest problems that Rangers have had over the past couple of seasons is that they can dominate games without actually creating many chances. Having possession of the ball and passing it sideways and backwards doesn’t win you games.

Gerrard knows he needs more pace in the side and that’s why he has persisted with Brandon Barker despite his lack of end product. Boufal, in contrast, would be a big upgrade and the Light Blues could use his pace to open up tightly contested matches.

Boufal could thrive outside of the Premier League

The Moroccan international has struggled to score goals and assists in English football, and he had similar problems when he was loaned to La Liga side Celta Vigo two years ago.

It must be said the quality of teams in Scotland is lower than those two leagues and Boufal may find the Premiership a more fitting stage for his talents.

He still has many years left ahead of him

Boufal is only 26 years of age and he is far from being over the hill. The prime years for a player are said to be in their late 20s so it will be hoped that if he moves to Ibrox, he could give the Gers his best years.

There are certainly no guarantees but if the move comes off, it could prove a key signing in securing the Scottish club another league title.
