Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that the Light Blues may step up their attempts to sign a new striker after Jermain Defoe suffered a hamstring injury in the 4-0 friendly win against Motherwell last night.

The Gers are now left with Alfredo Morelos as the club’s only fit senior forward, and Gerrard says they may need to go into the market to strengthen their options up front:

“I went on record last week to say I’d like to add in that area in terms of having extra firepower so who knows? It might push us even further in that direction to try and get something done.”

With just over a week to go before the start of the Scottish Premiership season, it won’t leave a lot of time to bring in a new addition.
