‘Dreadful’ Scottish Pundit Urges Rangers To Sell Superstar Defender

Former Scottish footballer Andy Walker has urged Rangers to sell defender Borna Barisic before his existing contract at the Ibrox Stadium reaches its expiration date in a recent interview.

Walker used examples of Rangers players who were allowed to leave on free transfers in the summer window – Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent – and cautioned the Gers to not allow this to happen with another important player.

He said that it would be ‘absolutely dreadful’ if Barisic left the club for nothing – if he does not want to pen a new deal with the Light Blues, Walker says they should sell him before it is too late.

What did Andy Walker say regarding Borna Barisic?

On the Go Radio Football Show, Walker said: “It doesn’t make any business sense to let him [Barisic] run his contract down and not got any money for him. It would be absolutely dreadful.

“It didn’t make any sense to do it with [Alfredo] Morelos or [Ryan] Kent either. When he’s got two years left on his contract, does he want to extend it? If the answer is no, you need to sell him.”

Should Rangers sell Barisic in January?

First and foremost, Rangers must try to strike a new deal with Barisic – that is, if they still want to keep him at the club. While he may be one of their best players, he is now 30 years of age and is on the decline.

Nevertheless, whatever the Gers’ intention is, they must decide how they wish to proceed sooner, rather than later. Losing another star player on a free transfer could be disastrous.

Not only would it be a poor move from a financial perspective, but the fans are becoming more and more impatient with the way transfer business is being conducted at the club. The summer transfer window proved to be an unsuccessful one for Rangers – Michael Beale and the board will need to do everything they can to restore their confidence.

While the debate surrounding Barisic rages on, the Light Blues have managed to tie down one of their most highly-rated youngsters – Bailey Rice, who has signed a new three-year deal with the club.
