“A Bigger Club Than Rangers? Absolutely Not” Adam Questions Star’s Interest In 13M Transfer

Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam has questioned why Alfredo Morelos was open to a move to Porto in the summer.

The Colombian has confirmed that talks had taken place about a switch to Portugal but no agreement was reached, with the Light Blues reportedly demanding €15m (£13m) for the striker. Adam feels that Porto wouldn’t have been a step up from Rangers anyway:

“In the Portuguese league, is Porto a bigger club than Rangers? Absolutely not. You talk about a bigger league; yes they have got some good teams. Lisbon and Benfica and things like that, but to talk about bigger clubs I don’t see it. It’s only him that can get that move, because he needs to start scoring goals regularly again and put in some good performances.”

Porto are regulars in the group stage of the Champions League, whilst they can also afford to pay players higher salaries than the Gers. Saying that, though, from a footballing perspective, Steven Gerrard’s side defeated the Portuguese side at home and drew with them away in the Europa League just a couple of years ago.

As Adam points out, if Morelos wants to get the move he clearly wants, he will have to perform consistently at the highest level. The Colombian international has had a decent start to the season, scoring three goals in seven appearances so far.
