“You’ve Got To Be Looking At 10M” Ferguson Claims Rangers Could Pocket Big Sum For Rising Star

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson believes Calvin Bassey has come on leaps and bounds during his second season at the club.

The defender arrived at Ibrox from Leicester in 2020 as a pretty raw left-back but, after some outstanding performances this campaign, Ferguson claims Bassey could now be worth up to eight figures:

“I don’t want to put him under pressure but you’ve got to be looking at £10 million pound just now. His development this year has been unbelievable. He’s grown each game, he’s getting stronger and he’s getting better. The beauty of him is that he can play left-back, left wing-back, in a back three and at left centre-back.”

“A lot of people go on about Ryan Jack, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Alfredo Morelos…but not a lot of people mention Bassey. He’s been outstanding and he’s one that Rangers need to get tied up on a long-term contract. If he produces these sorts of performances next season then Rangers are going to struggle to keep a hold of him. He fits the build for a defender.”

Bassey has been the first-team squad’s most improved player over the past year, and his ability to play multiple positions demonstrates his natural talent and wide array of attributes.

He possesses a great deal of pace and a cultured left-foot, whilst his positional play defensively has improved immeasurably, especially since he has been asked to cover more as a centre-back.

As Ferguson says, Bassey’s performances have gone under the radar somewhat, especially compared to some of his teammates, but fans will probably be happy to keep it that way so he doesn’t attract interest from clubs south of the border.
