Former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere said he was stuck by the “history” of Rangers on his first visit to the Old Firm club.

Wilshere was part of a World XI that narrowly beat a Rangers XI in a charity match at Ibrox on Sunday and, asked about how the day went, he said:

“I loved it, every minute. It’s the first time I’ve been here you and can feel the history when you walk in. They kept the ball really well and made it difficult for us. (Van Persie has) still got it. He looks fitter than his playing days.”

As Wilshere mentions, Robin van Persie was the deciding factor, with his hat trick integral to the World XI coming out on top 4-3 on the day.

A whole host of former Gers stars were also on the pitch, including Lorenzo Amoruso, Barry Ferguson, Kris Boyd and Jermain Defoe, who scored a brace on his return to Glasgow.

Over 30,000 attended the event, with the likes of former Chelsea players Michael Essien and Emmanuel Petit, as well as ex-Manchester United defender Jaap Stam, in attendance, so a fair amount was raised for charity over the weekend.
