Who Is Mohamed Buya Turay? Four Facts About The Rangers Transfer Target

The Ibrox Stadium.

Reports in Sweden over the past few days have suggested that Sint-Truiden forward Mohamed Buya Turay is still being tracked by Rangers.

The 25-year-old’s agent mentioned that the Bears were interested in the player back in March and it looks as though they have continued to monitor his progress.

It is believed that Alfredo Morelos will leave Ibrox this summer if a club matches Rangers’ valuation, so could Turay be the Colombian’s successor up front for the Light Blues?

Press the next page as we go through four interesting facts about the striker.

Turay has spent most of his career in Sweden

Although he was born in Sierra Leone, he moved to Scandinavia at an early age in order to pursue his career in football. He started out at Juventus IF before having a loan spell at Vasteras SK in 2014.

Turay then moved to AFC Eskilstuna before making a name for himself after making the switch to Dalkurd IF in March 2018. He scored nine goals in 13 appearances at the start of the 2018 Allsvenskan season.

An expensive failure in Belgium

Turay’s displays for Dalkurd IF led to a €2m switch to Belgian Pro League side Sint-Truiden in August 2018, but he was not given many opportunities to prove himself.

After just six league appearances, the striker was sent out on loan back to Sweden with Djurgarden in January 2019.

Turay thrived out on loan

The Sierra Leone international hit the ground running at his new club, scoring three goals in his first three games, going on to bag 15 goals in 29 appearances.

Djurgarden finished top of the table, beating Malmo to the title by one point, with Turay having played a key role in the Swedish club’s first league triumph in fourteen years.

His contract is up very soon

Now back at Sint-Truiden after his loan spell ended in December last year, Turay has yet to play a single game, having been omitted from every matchday squad before the Belgium football season was suspended.

It is almost certain that he will be available when the transfer window opens, and he will likely be sold for a knockdown price with his contract at the Belgian club expiring next summer.
