Who Is Kyle Joseph? Three Things To Know About The Wigan Star Being Pursued By Rangers And Arsenal

The Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers, Celtic and Arsenal are all keeping tabs on Wigan striker Kyle Joseph, according to reports in the UK.

The 19-year-old has burst on to the scene in England’s third tier this season, having scored five goals and contributed one assist in 16 appearances since making his senior debut.

Joseph has been scoring goals for fun at youth level as well, so it is not surprising that the Gers and many other clubs are taking a close look at the teenager.

So what do we know about the player? Press the next page as we go through three things you need to know about the Scottish starlet.

1) He signed his first professional deal not that long ago

Joseph’s rise to first-team football has been pretty rapid. He was only offered a professional contract during the 2018/19 season; a campaign where he finished second top scorer for the Under 18s.

After putting pen to paper on the new deal, the forward went from strength to strength, scoring goals for the Under 18s in the FA Youth Cup. He scored four in an 8-1 win over Croydon, before getting another in the fourth round as the Latics shocked Tottenham, securing a 2-0 victory. He then bagged another in a 2-0 win over Birmingham before his team were knocked out of the competition by Manchester United at the quarter-final stages.

2) Joseph is a Scotland Under 19 international

Although the 19-year-old was born in London, he has been called up by Scotland at both Under 18 and Under 19 levels. For the Under 19s, he was handed his debut by manager Billy Stark in February 2019.

Since then, Joseph has gone on to get six caps, as well as scoring one goal, and there is no doubt that he’ll be given a call up for the Under 21s by Scot Gemmill in the very near future.

3) He has already scored his first senior hat-trick

After making his senior debut for Wigan back in October as a substitute in a 3-2 defeat against Northampton, Joseph has begun to get regular first-team action.

The teenager got his first start just a week later versus Blackpool and his first goal was the winner in a 1-0 victory over Sunderland. His knack for scoring goals was further demonstrated when he bagged his first hat-trick for Wigan in a 4-3 win against Burton Albion just after Christmas.
