Who Is Fashion Sakala? 5 Things You Need To Know About The Rangers Target

The Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers are targeting a summer move for KV Oostende forward Fashion Sakala, according to reports in the Scottish media.

The 23-year-old’s contract with his current club expires at the end of the season, and the Light Blues believe the striker could add value to the squad if he is brought in on a free transfer.

Sakala has already spoken out to confirm that there is interest in him but he will only leave Oostende if he is guaranteed first-team football at his next club. So what do we know about the player?

Press the next page as we go through five facts about the forward.

1) Sakala started out his footballing career in Zambia

The striker was born in Zambia and started off playing at a club called Nchanga Rangers FC before sealing a move to Zanaco FC in January 2016.

Sakala spent just over a year with his new team where he gained the attention of scouts from a number of European clubs.

2) He moved to Spartak Moscow but never played for the first team

Sakala eventually made the switch to Spartak Moscow in February 2017 but, despite making his debut for Zambia’s senior side during his time with the Russian side, he never played a first-team game.

In fact, the Zambian made a number of appearances for the club’s second team and reserve sides before he was eventually sold 18 months after making the switch to Europe.

3) Sakala made the move to Belgium in 2018

Belgian Jupiler Pro League side KV Oostende were the team who decided to take a chance on the striker after he joined them for a nominal fee in the summer of 2018.

Sakala made an instant impact during the 18/19 season, playing 38 games in all competitions, although he wasn’t a regular starter quite yet.

4) He isn’t a prolific goalscorer

Over the next two and a half years, Sakala became an important first-team player for Oostende, playing either as a winger or as a centre-forward.

It must be pointed out, though, that the Zambian international isn’t necessarily a natural goalscorer, having scored just 21 goals in 84 appearances since his move to Belgium.

5) Sakala’s contract situation means he is in demand

The fact that the 23-year-old is available on a free transfer in the summer means that Rangers will have to battle some other clubs to secure the player’s signature.

West Ham, Newcastle and Anderlecht are also believed to be keeping tabs on Sakala, and it remains to be seen who will win the race to sign him.
