New Rangers signing Calvin Bassey has been described as “some player” by his current Leicester teammate James Maddison.
The left-back will move to Ibrox on July 1st after signing a pre-contract agreement with the Bears. He took to Instagram yesterday to say goodbye to Foxes fans, and Maddison replied with a ringing endorsement of the player’s abilities:
“All the best little bro, some player.”
Bassey’s mentor has also been speaking about the 20-year-old in recent days, comparing him to the likes of David Alaba, Marcelo and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. That is putting a lot of pressure on the young man’s shoulders but he will certainly be in good hands under manager Steven Gerrard.
Bassey may get first-team opportunities earlier than he thinks. With no recognised backup for Borna Barisic in the first team squad, following the departures of Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan, the young left-back could be called upon to play regularly for Rangers during preseason.
