Following Rangers forward Jermain Defoe’s goal against Cove Rangers at the weekend, fans have been reflecting on his superb goalscoring record since he arrived at Ibrox.
After joining on an initial loan spell from Bournemouth in January 2019, he has subsequently racked up a goal every 104 minutes. If we take into account assists, the striker has been involved in a goal every 74 minutes he is on the pitch.
Considering Defoe came to the club in the twilight of his career, those sort of numbers are an even greater achievement; something that many supporters on Twitter recognise:
Unreal stats

That guy could score goals in that league until he’s 45. As sharp as a tack.

Tbh he has the giroud dilemma, give them a game on the right day he’s gonna be top class but he’s too old for regular week in week out football

Defoe’s current deal with the Light Blues expires in June and, at this stage, it doesn’t look likely that he will be handed another extension. Things may change between now and June, but if he does depart, his contributions will deservedly be heralded by fans. His experience and professionalism have undoubtedly aided the club’s return to the summit of Scottish football.
