United Starlet Backed To Make Surprise Return To Rangers Despite Challenging Spell At Ibrox

Ex-Rangers star Alan Hutton says he wouldn’t mind seeing Manchester United winger Amad Diallo return for a second loan spell at the club.

Despite the Ivorian struggling to make an impact after joining the Bears for the second half of last season, Hutton feels that Diallo possesses enough talent to be given another chance:

“I don’t think he reached the heights that a lot of people were expecting. I’m not going to lie I thought he’d have more of an impact, so I did feel for him. He’s obviously come from a big club, and there’s no doubting his talent and we did see it in flashes.”

“I think Ross County away was his first game if memory serves me correct he scored and had some good touches. But after that he got thrown into the deep end a little bit against Celtic and he got lost. I don’t think he may be realised how big a fixture it was.”

“I did feel for him because there is a great player there, it’s just about showing it on a consistent basis and I don’t think we quite saw that for someone so young. So it would be nice to see him come back and flourish and show the player he actually can be.”

As Hutton mentions, Diallo started his loan spell in Scotland very impressively by scoring minutes into his debut against Ross County, but it was all down hill from there.

After being overawed in his first Old Firm derby, manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst felt he had no choice but to substitute the teenager at halftime.

Things didn’t improve from then on, as Diallo spent the majority of his time at Ibrox on the bench. A notable exception, though, was the Scottish Cup final last month, but he didn’t really take his chance to impress at Hampden Park either. All in all, you’d have to say that, unless he improves significantly, the 19-year-old is unlikely to add much to the squad if he were to return to Glasgow.
