Rangers have joined the race to sign Verona left-back Josh Doig, according to Toro Goal.
The Instagram account, which provides updates on Torino, claims that ‘El Toro’, Monza, Leeds and Rangers are all keen on recruiting the Scotland Under 21 international.
However, it is believed that Verona will demand around €6m (£5.2m) for Doig, and that fee has divided opinion among supporters on X:

Not worth the money

Get him on loan with option to buy to see how he gets on first.

We can’t afford him.

Would be a great signing, might cost too much, but would have great sell on. We’d probably go in if we sell Yilmaz or Borna (or both)
— Rob (@robcameron23) January 1, 2024
Not at €6m.

Ppl are saying not at that price 6M but is this a touch of snobbery on our part due to him being Scottish
— Ronnie (@djjannie) January 1, 2024
Doesn’t strike me as a Clement type player.
& at £6 million, they can whistle.
Non-starter.

Righting a wrong here. Would be a great signing.

Doig has built a solid reputation in Italy
Prior to leaving Hibernian in 2022, the fullback was heavily linked with a number of English Premier League clubs, including Arsenal. However, he opted to make a surprise move to Verona instead.
Doig has had a successful 18 months with the Serie A side, making 32 appearances in total and scoring 2 goals.
Rangers need to replace Barisic
With Borna Barisic‘s current deal set to expire at the end of the season, there is a good chance that the Croatian international will leave Ibrox on a free transfer. As we are into January, he is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.
Rangers, therefore, need to look at potential replacements, and Doig seems to be the player they have identified, if reports are to be believed. It remains to be seen, though, whether his asking price will be an issue.
