Rangers will have a fight on their hands keeping Jack Butland at Ibrox this summer, according to former Light Blues player Charlie Adam.
Since joining the Gers on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, the 31-year-old has made a huge impression, and Adam says there are likely to be a few English teams sniffing around the goalkeeper at the end of the season:
“You want Rangers to hold on to him. In the summer, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some English clubs coming for him.”
“What he’s done so far is brilliant for Rangers but you can’t control what’s on the outside. However, there’s a title race on at the moment and that’s something Jack will be relishing.”
Adam is right to be worried
Butland revealed last month that he was the subject of an official bid from Nottingham Forest in January.
Although the Gers turned down the offer, and the player was happy to stay, there is likely to be more interest from clubs south of the border when the next transfer window opens.
Rangers won’t let Butland leave for a low fee
The Bears took a gamble on the England international when he joined the club last year. He spent the last six months of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Manchester United where he didn’t play a single game.
Since arriving in Scotland, though, Butland has been extremely consistent. A reliable no.1 is hard to find so there is no way that Phillippe Clement’s side will let him go on the cheap.
Adam does make a good point that the keeper is not thinking about leaving Ibrox at the moment. When Butland spoke out about Forest’s interest, he said he rejected the possibility immediately as he wants to win the title. That desire to secure trophies could help the club keep him for the long-term.
