Rangers do not have an option to buy Fabio Silva in their loan agreement with Wolves, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

After confirming that the Portuguese striker will join the Light Blues on a temporary basis for the rest of the season, Romano made it clear that the player will return to Molineux next summer:

Considering that Silva cost Wolves £35m when he joined from Porto in 2020, it is not a surprise that Rangers have decided against negotiating a purchase option.

Even if the 21-year-old does perform well during his spell at Ibrox, they won’t be in a position to buy him, considering how much Wolves would likely demand for his services.

It was originally reported that Celtic were also keen on snapping up the forward but, based on Romano’s comments, it seems that manager Phillipe Clement and his Director of Football Nils Koppen played a pivotal role in negotiations.

With Silva having spent the second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where Koppen was a scout, it seems likely that the Belgian was particularly influential in bringing him to Rangers.

While some may question the logic of signing a striker who has only scored 5 goals in 72 appearances for Wolves, it should be noted that his performances out on loan last season were more promising.

Silva hit the back of the net 11 times for Anderlecht in a six-month spell and he scored another 5 goals for PSV.
