Top 5 Rangers Strikers Of The Last 20 Years – Including Former Everton, Tottenham & Celtic Hitmen

Fewer clubs have been on a more scintillating rollercoaster over the past 20 years than Rangers. The peaks have been high – but the valleys have also been cavernous.

In the past two decades, Rangers have risen from liquidation and expulsion from the Scottish Premiership to reach a Europa League final last year – it has been a struggle, but the Light Blues are back on track.

With that being said, the Gers have had some wonderful strikers during their darkest periods. Here’s a look at some of the best of them.

Kenny Miller

One of Scottish football’s great journeymen, Kenny Miller is one of few players to have played for both Rangers and Celtic over the course of his illustrious career.

A dogged, determined centre-forward, Miller always made his marker’s life difficult. He was extremely physical and had a limitless engine to boot.

He spent three different spells at Rangers as a player. His second spell was undoubtedly his most successful, where he scored 49 goals in 81 games.

Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe joined Rangers in the twilight of his career – nevertheless, he routinely rolled back the years as a Light Blues player.

Whilst at the club, Defoe scored 25 goals in 54 games – admittedly, the quality of his performances deteriorated as his Rangers spell wore on – but this was likely down to his advanced age.

Outside of Rangers, Defoe played for a host of reputable clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and West Ham United.

Alfredo Morelos

Some may have expected to see Alfredo Morelos higher up on the list. He’s been a great servant to Rangers, but he has been less impressive over the past year or two.

An aggressive, hard-working striker, Morelos’ finishing often leaves a lot to be desired – nevertheless, his intense work rate (when he is in the mood!) more than makes up for it – if you create chances for him, he’ll get on the end of them.

Whether they end up in the back of the net or not is a different story. Despite this, Morelos routinely displays what he is capable of – it’s just consistency that he lacks – he’s scored 76 goals in 172 games for the Gers.

Nikica Jelavić

Nikica Jelavic was an absolute sensation whilst playing for the Gers. Despite only playing for them across two seasons, the impact he made can still be felt to this day.

Some raised their eyebrows at his price tag of £4 million – however, Jelavic proved his doubters wrong as he went on to score 30 goals in 45 games.

Outside of Rangers, Jelavic played for clubs such as Everton, Hull City and West Ham United – though there is no doubt that he enjoyed his finest years with the Glasgow club.

Kris Boyd

One of the greatest Rangers strikers of all time and one of Scotland’s most overlooked talents of the past 30 years, Kris Boyd was excellent during his time at the Light Blues.

A true poacher – Boyd’s natural finishing ability was something to behold. In total, he scored 104 goals for Rangers across two different spells at the club.

Sadly, his second spell was very underwhelming in comparison to his first – but this shouldn’t affect the great man’s Rangers legacy.
