‘This Could Be A Masterstroke’ ‘Really Smart Piece Of Business’ Fans Delighted As Rangers Snap Up Nigerian International

Rangers have confirmed the signing of former Brighton defender Leon Balogun on a free transfer. The Nigerian international has signed a one-year contract with an option for a further year.

The 32-year-old performed well for Wigan Athletic during his loan spell with the Championship side in the second half of last season and supporters on Twitter think the Light Blues have made a good decision in snapping up the centre-back:

A new centre-half was certainly needed, following the serious knee injury sustained by Nikola Katic. Balogun is an experienced defender, having played in both the Bundesliga and the Premier League.

On top of that, he also has 31 caps for Nigeria, demonstrating he is unlikely to be fazed with what will be thrown at him in the Scottish Premiership.

Whether Balogun can go on to establish himself as a first-choice centre-back, we shall have to wait and see. Both Connor Goldson and George Edmundson have impressed during pre-season.
