“They Are Rattled, They Are Shaken” Sutton Criticises Gerrard And Rangers Over Deadline Day Transfer

Former Celtic striker turned TV pundit Chris Sutton believes Rangers’s defeat in the Old Firm derby led to them purchasing Ryan Kent on deadline day.

The 22-year-old secured a £6.5m move yesterday, but Sutton has questioned why manager Steven Gerrard has opted to sign another winger, with the club having already signed a number of wide players this summer:

“He’s rattled, they’re shaken, panic buy today, £7m! People will be asking ‘where are they finding this money from?’ I think he’s signed over 25 players since he’s been there. Why didn’t they sign him before?”

“How many wingers have Rangers got? They signed Ojo, they signed Hastie, they signed Jones, they have Arfield, Aribo who played there. They are rattled, they are shaken by it all.”

Kent’s transfer has been in the works for a number of months so Sutton is way off the mark linking it with the Celtic defeat.

Liverpool had been holding out for a permanent deal, rather than a loan which Rangers wanted, and so negotiations were always going to go down to the wire.

The deadline day signing of Kent will, however, help bridge the gap to their Glasgow rivals with the talent that he possesses. It may be a significant outlay but if he can come up with the goods when necessary, the Gers will see it as money well spent.
