The Four Major Threats Rangers Will Need To Look Out For When They Face Lyon

The Ibrox Stadium.

Rangers coach Michael Beale has named four Lyon players that the Light Blues must keep quiet if they are to get a result against the Ligue One side on Thursday night.

Beale was full of praise for the Gers’ Europa League opponents who he claims are the “most talented squad” he has faced since joining the Scottish club.

Lucas Paqueta, Bruno Guimaraes, Houssem Aouar and Thiago Mendes are the four that Beale believes Rangers will have to keep an eye on at Ibrox later this week.

Press the next page as we go into detail about the four major threats the Bears could face.

Lucas Paqueta

It must be pointed out that the Brazilian could miss out on the Rangers clash due to quarantine but if he is available, he will be Lyon’s main playmaker.

Paqueta’s first club in Europe was AC Milan, with many feeling that he had a lot of potential. However, things didn’t work out for him in Italy and he made the switch to France in September last year. The 24-year-old scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances during his first season with Lyon.

Bruno Guimaraes

Along with Paqueta, there is a risk that the holding midfielder may be absent due to the Scottish government’s quarantine rules, but were he to start, he will play an important role in breaking up play and setting up attacks for Lyon.

Guimaraes has been on Arsenal’s radar over the past two years, and at the age of just 23, he is expected to develop his game even further in the future.

Houssem Aouar

Beale has described the France international as having massive potential, praising his ball control in close quarters whilst  having the ability to change “the speed of the game when needed.”

It was assumed that Aouar would move clubs over the summer, after being put on the market by Lyon, but reported concerns over his attitude led many teams to cool their interest in him.

Thiago Mendes

The 29-year-old has been in and out of Lyon’s team so far this season, having only started two of their five matches, but he may be given his opportunity in the Europa League.

Much like Guimaraes, Mendes provides Lyon with a solid foundation in the middle of the park, and it will be up to the likes of Glen Kamara and Steven Davis to win the midfield battle.
