Sutton Thinks Rangers Have One Key Advantage Over Celtic In The Title Race

The Ibrox Stadium.

Ex-Celtic forward Chris Sutton believes Rangers’ greater depth up front could give the Light Blues an advantage over Celtic in the race for the title.

The TV pundit thinks the Gers’ ability to swap between Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos could be key, with their Old Firm rivals heavily reliant on Odsonne Edouard:

“This is where, at the moment, they have the edge on Celtic, because if Celtic get an injury to Edouard, do they have the backup? Rangers have Defoe, who’s a phenomenal finisher. And Morelos is in the form of his life, isn’t he.”

With the two teams separated only by goal difference at the top of the table, the added depth in the striker department could be all that Steven Gerrard’s side need to come out on top.

While Defoe started the weekend win against Hamilton, and has 13 goals in all competitions, they also had Morelos available off the bench, with the Colombian having already found the net 22 times this season.

In contrast, Celtic have just one striker in Edouard, who has hit double figures, while a lot of their other goals have come from midfield, with Ryan Christie and James Forrest regular contributors.
