Sutton Singles Out Rangers Duo Whose Firepower Could Prove Decisive Against Celtic In Title Race

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes the firepower that Rangers possess could prove a deciding factor in the title race this season.

The Gers hit five against Hamilton at the weekend, while their Old Firm rivals succumbed to a 2-0 defeat away at Livingston, and he thinks Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe could have a big say as to where the Premiership trophy goes this campaign:

“You can see Rangers are building something. I worry about Celtic if the centre forward Edouard gets injured, the backup is unproven.”

“Rangers have Morelos, who this season seems to really have settled down, they’ve got Jermain Defoe who is scoring goals, [Gerrard] is able to rotate, they’re a team with confidence.”

Defoe bagged himself another hat-trick on Sunday, taking his total for the season up to 12 from just 14 games in all competitions. The striker is showing no signs of slowing down despite being 36 years of age.

Morelos started on the bench at Ibrox, but is currently just ahead of Defoe in the goalscoring charts with 14 goals from his 19 appearances so far.

In contrast, Celtic’s top scorer, Odsonne Edouard, has nine goals, with Leigh Griffiths having scored three while Vakoun Issouf Bayo has hit the back of the net just once.
