SPFL Roundup as Rangers Pick Up Narrow Win Over Ross County

Michael Beale’s Rangers were victorious at the weekend – but their opponents, Ross County, did not make it easy for the Gers.

Rangers went into the break with a 1-0 lead, as Malik Tillman opened the scoring just before the end of the first half. County weren’t about to simply roll over and accept defeat – they battled back, with Jordan White grabbing an equaliser in the 65th minute.

Regardless, Rangers kept going, with a winning goal coming through a deflected free kick from Borna Barisic. It was a solid win for the Light Blues, but they still remain nine points behind Celtic.

The Celts played their weekend fixture on Sunday, where they took on St. Johnstone. It was a comfortable ride for Ange Postecoglou’s team, as they won 4-1 with Kyogo Furuhashi, Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull all getting in on the act.

Aberdeen have been in freefall recently – despite this, they managed to stop the rot against Motherwell, as they came away with a 3-1 win. The same cannot be said for their opponents, as The Well are in the midst of a relegation battle. Currently, they’re 11th in the league, just above bottom club Dundee United on goal difference.

They’ll be happy to know that Dundee United lost at the weekend, too – they were beaten 3-1 by Hearts, who are enjoying a fruitful SPFL season so far. United led early on thanks to a Steven Fletcher effort, but went down to ten men after Ryan Edwards received his marching orders for a poor challenge.

From there, Hearts fought back and took the lead, punctuating their victory with a stunning 50 yard blockbuster from Stephen Humphreys.

Elsewhere in the league, Hibernian ran out as 1-0 victors away at St. Mirren and Livingston beat Kilmarnock 3-1 at home.
