Ross Wilson Outlines Rangers’ Transfer Strategy For The January Transfer Window

Rangers’ Director of Football Ross Wilson has confirmed that that the club are open to signing players both on loan and on pre-contract agreements when the January transfer window opens.

When asked about the club’s transfer strategy in a Q&A with the team’s Youth Development Company, Wilson said he would be interested in signing more than one player if the right opportunities come along in the New Year:

“In an ideal world, I’d sign two players (as long as we need two and they fit our strategy!). The two examples you mentioned are both important to us but the keyword you mentioned is targeted. That needs to mean we have done the work and followed the clear strategy and process to get to the signing stage on those two examples.”

At the moment, Steven Gerrard’s squad doesn’t really have any areas of weakness that are in urgent need of fixing so a loan signing is probably unlikely at this stage.

However, with Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram unlikely to sign a new deal with the Blades, and with Rangers having been linked with the player, the club may take up the opportunity to sign him on a pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer in the summer. With the window opening in just over six weeks time, we won’t have to wait long to find out what happens.
