Romano Reveals Rangers Are “Really Close” To Signing 13 Cap International

Rangers are “really close” to sealing the signature of Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable reporter claims that negotiations are at an advanced stage with the player seemingly poised to complete his switch to Glasgow:

“Jose Cifuentes from LAFC is really close to Rangers, there have been negotiations, very advanced, between Cifuentes and Rangers and the clubs of course. The agents of the player met with Rangers two days ago and so Cifuentes could leave MLS to join Rangers.”

Cifuentes has just over six months left on his contract at LAFC and the MLS side are keen to offload the 24-year-old before he leaves on a free at the end of the year.

The Ecuadorian, who has been capped 13 times by his country, has performed well since moving to the US three and a half years ago and, if his transfer to Rangers is confirmed, it will be a big coup for Light Blues boss Michael Beale.

Cifuentes Was Linked With Rangers’ Old Firm Rivals Before Joining LAFC

Celtic scouted the midfielder in the summer of 2019, but the Hoops ultimately decided against making a bid.

Instead, Cifuentes ended up in North America, where he has built a solid reputation for himself. Four years after first being linked with a Scottish team, he could finally seal a move to these shores.
