Romania Legend Sends Transfer Message To Hagi Amid Rumours Of Lazio Switch

Former Romanian international striker Ciprian Marica has called on Ianis Hagi to stay at Rangers and snub a move to Lazio.

There have been claims in the Italian press that the midfielder could make the switch to Serie A at the end of the season but Marica feels his development would be best served playing under Steven Gerrard:

“It would be good for Ianis Hagi to continue to play for Rangers. For him, at this stage of his career, it’s more important for him to get games than a move to a top league.”

“Lazio are a very good team and I don’t think it would do him any good to move to Italy and have to battle for a first-team place and not play as often. He is still very young and is learning the game. It’s best he gets to do that in Scotland with his current coach.”

Although reports about Lazio’s interest have been consistent over the past month, the decision about where Hagi ends up next season will lie with Rangers.

The Light Blues already have a £4.5m purchase clause in place if they want to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis, but there is some uncertainty over whether the Old Firm side will choose to trigger it.

The financial pressures caused by the global health crisis has already led to players and staff agreeing to defer 50% of their wages for the next three months. It is likely to impact the transfer budget as well, and it remains to be seen if Hagi will be at the club next campaign.
