Reviewing Michael Beale’s Tenure At Rangers So Far

On November 28, 2022, Michael Beale signed for Rangers leaving QPR to become the Gers’ new head coach. He replaced the previous manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, after the Dutchman was sacked a week earlier. Here we are reviewing Michael Beale’s tenure at Rangers so far he took over as the gaffer.

During his time as manager of Rangers, Michael Beale has led his side out for seven SPFL games. As such, the jury is very much still out on the Bromley-born man.

Despite this, he has won six of those seven games. The only game Beale failed to win was against Celtic at the Ibrox Stadium, which the Gers drew 2-2. During this run, Rangers have defeated teams such as Hibernian, Aberdeen and Motherwell.

Beale has largely kept the same system that Van Bronckhorst deployed – in six of his seven games, he has used a 4-3-3 formation, as Van Bronckhorst did. The Rangers boss used the same formation during his time at QPR, albeit with a slightly more attacking configuration.

The 42-year-old has been at Rangers before – he worked as part of Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff during the Liverpool’s legend’s stint at the helm. In 2021, Gerrard led Rangers to their first league title since 2011 – can Beale recreate the Scouser’s heroics?

Beale has managed to reintegrate Alfredo Morelos into the side and the Colombian hitman has scored 4 goals since the ex QPR manager replaced Giovanni van Bronckhorst. After only scoring 3 goals in the previous 19 games the forward is starting matches in a run of games. Is the manager putting the striker in the shop window? It seems unlikely as Morelos looks like the Morelos of old especially after his brace last time out Vs Kilmarnock in their 3-2 away win.

Outside of Rangers, Beale spent time coaching at Sao Paulo, Aston Villa and Liverpool’s academy before taking on more prominent roles like QPR manager. So far, Beale is proving to be a success at Rangers – Gers fans will be hoping it lasts for a long time to come.
