REPORT: Rangers Star Set To Avoid Punishment For Gesture In Old Firm Derby

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is set to avoid punishment for his controversial ‘throat-slitting’ gesture after being sent off against Celtic, according to the Scottish Daily Express (via the BBC).

The Gers are confident that they have footage which will exonerate the Colombian international, demonstrating that there was no sinister intent behind the gesture.

Morelos is already suspended for Rangers’ first game after the winter break following his red card during the final moments of the Old Firm derby win.

It was the 23-year-old’s second sending off of the season, and while the forward has certainly improved his discipline this campaign, this latest incident shows there is still some work to do.

Manager Steven Gerrard did, though, defend Morelos after the match on Sunday saying he felt the Colombian was taken down in the box by Hoops defender Christopher Jullien and should not have received a second yellow card for simulation.
