REPORT: Rangers Launch Seven-Figure Transfer Bid For Serie A Striker

Rangers have reportedly put forth a ‘significant’ transfer bid for Nigerian centre-forward Cyriel Dessers, according to a report from the Daily Record.

Currently at Cremonese, who have been relegated from the top flight of Italian football, Dessers has scored six league goals this season, alongside a pair of assists.

The Gers will be hoping that Dessers can replace the outgoing Alfredo Morelos, who is set to leave the Ibrox Stadium at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

He shares many traits with the Columbian hitman – not only are they both very hard-working strikers, they are also both very aggressive and determined. Morelos’s growling presence up top will be miss upon his departure – but with Dessers, the Light Blues may have found a perfect replacement.

Who else, besides Rangers, is linked with Cyriel Dessers?

As things stand, Rangers appear to the only club who are heavily linked with the acquisition of the 28-year-old. As such, nothing should stand in the way during the Gers’ quest to bring him on board.

Nottingham Forest have been linked with the player in the past, namely the previous summer transfer window, but their interest in the player has gone cold since then.

Cyriel Dessers career summary

Born in Belgium, Dessers’ career began life at OH Leuven, before he got his first chance at a run of senior team games with Lokeren. Despite this, he would score just four goals in 32 games.

He moved to Dutch club AC Breda in 2016 – here, he began to show what he was really capable of, scoring 22 goals in 36 league games. He enjoyed strong spells at other clubs in the Netherlands, such as FC Utrecht and Heracles Almelo, before moving to Genk in 2020.

A loan move to Feyenoord eventually developed into a move to Cremonese, which did not work out as all parties would have hoped. Can he get his career back on track at Rangers?
