REPORT: Rangers In Advanced Talks With 15-Cap Midfielder

Rangers are pursuing Ecuadorian midfielder Jose Cifuentes with a transfer in mind, according Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. Additionally, it is also believed that the deal will be completed ‘soon’.

In Romano’s tweet, he wrote: “Rangers are advancing for the signing of LAFC midfielder José Cifuentes — talks are progressing to crucial stages. The agents of the player has met with the club few days ago — all the parties confident to get the deal done soon.”

The Gers have had great success with signing South American players from abroad in the past. A good example of this is Alfredo Morelos, who has scored 78 goals in 177 games for the Light Blues.

Jose Cifuentes career summary

Aged just 24, Cifuentes has played exclusively in North and South America over the course of his relatively young professional footballing career.

He made his pro debut at Universidad Católica – despite spending three years there, he only made six appearances, scoring a solitary goal. During this time, he spent two years out on loan with América de Quito, where he made 68 appearances and scored seven goals.

From there, the Ecuadorian international signed for Los Angeles FC in the MLS. He has made quite a splash in the USA’s top division, scoring 13 goals from midfield across 91 games. Can he replicate this good form at the Ibrox Stadium?
