Rangers Watch On With Concern As Meeting Between 2 Key Football Figures Prompt Super League Rumours

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez met Juventus chief Andrea Agnelli for talks in Turin yesterday, according to reports in Italy.

The subject of the discussion was believed to be the future of European football, and with both reportedly in favour of plans for a Super League, the meeting will be concerning for the likes of Rangers.

A revamp of the Champions League is expected in 2024, although UEFA’s president Alexander Ceferin has poured cold water on speculation that football could become a closed shop in Europe.

However, Perez and Agnelli may have their eye on a breakaway. Proposals for a FIFA-backed tournament were revealed back in October although those plans were put on hold when the news became public.

Rangers rely on European football for prize money and it will be a major concern if two of the continent’s most influential football figures are working on a Super League which could lock them out from such financial rewards.
