‘Absolutely Smashed’ Celtic Legend Gives Verdict On Old Firm Derby Result As Rangers Suffer Defeat

Celtic icon Chris Sutton spoke on the troubles faced by Rangers and head coach Michael Beale in an interview featured on the It’s Kicking Off Podcast.

Sutton touched upon the Gers’ recent run of poor form – not only were they beaten by a depleted Celtic outfit at the weekend, they were also recently humiliated by PSV in the qualifying stage of the Champions League.

Moreover, he also talked about the many signings made by the Light Blues in the summer transfer window and how they ‘haven’t quite clicked at this moment in time’.

What did Chris Sutton say?

On the It’s Kicking Off Podcast, Sutton said: “It was a problem for Michael Beale, whichever manager lost the game it was going to be an issue. More so for Michael Beale I think with the nature of them going out of the Champions League, absolutely smashed by PSV, and [having] brought in a lot of players who haven’t quite clicked at this moment in time.

“Celtic have a lot of players to come back in, a lot of injury problems, and ended up deservedly winning the game, so it’s a problem for Michael Beale.

“His biggest issue is there were 25,000 supporters at the end of the game who gave the Rangers team absolute pelters when they came off. And you think four league games in, out of the Champions League, albeit they’re in the Europa, they’re under the pump.”

How can Michael Beale turn fortunes around at Rangers?

Like Sutton mentioned, Gers fans need to keep in mind that there have been a plethora of new additions to the squad in the summer transfer window – in total, they have brought nine new players to the club.

Due to this, it is understandable that Beale’s new-look Light Blues outfit are not quite the cohesive unit that they will become in the near future. They will need to gel sooner rather than later, though – the fans are becoming more and more impatient, as the bad results begin to pile up.

Some fans are starting to call for Beale’s sacking – he will need time to catch up to Celtic, but whether he will get the time he needs or not remains to be seen.
