Rangers V Celtic: Match Preview And Betting Odds

The first Old Firm derby of the season will give a massive indication to how far Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side have progressed. The Gers head into the encounter level on points with their fierce rivals.

Celtic are coming off the back of a morale-boosting 4-1 win against AIK in the Europa League on Thursday but their defence has been a major weakness for them this season. Neil Lennon’s team have conceded 12 in all competitions so far.

Considering Rangers have triumphed in both of their last two games against the Hoops at Ibrox, they will be confident of getting the three points on Sunday afternoon.

Gerrard should have almost a fully fit squad to choose from, although summer signing Brandon Barker is highly unlikely to be involved after limping off whilst playing against Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup on Tuesday.

Celtic, meanwhile, will likely be without Kristoffer Ajer who suffered a groin strain against AIK. New recruit Moritz Bauer may be given his debut as first-choice right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed is out for another couple of weeks with a hairline fracture.

However, Odsonne Edouard will be available. The Frenchman was substituted with 15 minutes to go during the win in Sweden last night, but manager Neil Lennon confirmed after the match that he was only suffering from cramp.

At the bookmakers, Rangers are currently slight favourites with Unibet having them at 7/5 to get the win. A draw is 12/5 with Betfair while a Celtic victory is 21/10 at Bet365.
