Rangers Try To Head Off Spurs In Attempt To Land Zungu’s Replacement

Rangers are plotting a move for HNK Rijeka midfielder Ivan Lepinjica, according to reports in the English media.

The 21-year-old is believed to be interesting a number of EPL clubs, including Tottenham, but the player’s fitness record means the Light Blues are the only team prepared to make an offer.

Considering Lepinjica’s less than stellar injury history, Director of Football Ross Wilson will try and play it safe by attempting to sign the Croatian on an initial loan deal, with an option to buy.

Structuring the deal in that way has worked well in the past, helping them to decide on signing Ianis Hagi while passing on Bongani Zungu, who has been sent back to Amiens.

In fact, it is believed Lepinjica is being eyed as Zungu’s replacement in the first-team squad, with the Croatian Under 21 international’s best position being as a holding midfield player. At nearly 6ft 3, he has the build to make an impact in the Scottish game, so we shall see whether a formal bid is made in the coming weeks.
