REPORT: Deal For Rangers Transfer Target ‘Essentially Done’

Rangers are set to complete a transfer for LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes, according to a report from the 4th Official on Patreon.

According to the 4th Official, Rangers have ‘agreed terms’ with the player. Despite this, LAFC have yet to accept a bid. However, with just six months left on his contract, they are likely to accept whatever the Light Blues offer them – if not, they risk losing the Ecuadorian on a free transfer in the winter.

Despite this, Cifuentes is one of LAFC’s most important players – they may wish to cling onto him for as long as they can.

Rangers have had plenty of success in the past with signing players from the Americas – the talismanic Alfredo Morelos is a brilliant example of this.

What will Jose Cifuentes add to the Rangers squad?

Rangers currently have a lack of creativity in midfield – a problem that is exacerbated by the loss of Ryan Kent, as he has now joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

However, the addition of Cifuentes to their playing ranks should allow the Gers to take a massive stride towards ameliorating this problem. Not only is he clever passer with plenty of ability on the ball, he can also score goals from midfield.

Cifuentes also boasts a fair amount of international experience. Thus far, he has earned himself a total of 15 caps for his native Ecuador, but has yet to score a goal for his country.

Jose Cifuentes football career summary so far

Born in 1999, Cifuentes has played exclusively in North and South America over the course of his professional footballing career.

He made his pro debut at Universidad Católica after progressing through their academy ranks – despite spending three years there, he only made six appearances, scoring a solitary goal. During this time, he spent two years out on loan with América de Quito, where he made 68 appearances and scored seven goals.

From there, the Ecuadorian international signed for Los Angeles FC (better known as LAFC) in the MLS. He has made quite a splash in the USA’s top division, scoring 13 goals from midfield across 91 games. Can he replicate this strong form at the Ibrox Stadium?
