Rangers Told They Must Pay 3.4M If They Want To Secure Kenyan Star Ahead Of Celtic

Elfsborg will hold out for around 40m Swedish Krona (£3.4m) for centre-back Joseph Okumu, according to reports in the Swedish media.

Rangers have been named as one of five teams who have registered an interest in the Kenyan international, with Celtic, Lorient, Gent and Stade de Reims also prepared to sign the 24-year-old.

At the moment, Lorient have made the highest bid (SEK 30m or £2.56m) but Okumu is believed to be keener on moving to Ibrox if the Light Blues can come up with the funds.

Considering the number of centre-halves he currently has at his disposal, it is surprising that manager Steven Gerrard is looking at snapping up Okumu.

With Nikola Katic returning from a long-term injury, and George Edmundson having come back from his loan spell at Derby, the Gers currently have six centre-backs in the first-team squad.

Whether Okumu’s arrival would suggest that a defender will be leaving the Scottish champions this summer, we shall have to wait and see.
