Rangers To Receive 20% From Former Star’s 2.5M Transfer To Sheffield Wednesday

Rangers will receive 20% of the transfer fee if Wigan Athletic midfielder Josh Windass seals his £2.5m move to Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Sheffield Star.

The Light Blues inserted the sell-on clause when the Englishman left Ibrox for the Latics in 2018, and they are now anticipating a £500,000 windfall from the transfer.

Wigan reportedly accepted offers from three different clubs for Windass but the player has decided to join Wednesday after spending the second half of last season on loan with the Owls.

Considering Rangers sold the 26-year-old for £2m two years ago, getting in some additional revenue from the player’s departure is certainly a bonus.

Windass hasn’t exactly set the world alight since leaving the Scottish club, having scored just nine goals and provided four assists in 56 appearances for Wigan during his time with the Championship side.

Whether the £500,000 will be put towards another signing before the transfer window closes, we shall have to wait and see.
