Rangers Target Confirms Talks Which Could Scupper Club’s Hopes Of Securing Bargain Summer Transfer

KV Oostende forward Fashion Sakala has dealt a blow to Rangers’ chances of signing him on a free transfer in the summer.

The Zambian international is said to be on the Scottish club’s radar, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, but speaking in an interview with the Belgian media recently, Sakala confirmed he is now in talks about extending his stay with Oostende:

“We’re talking about an extension and it’s going well. I am a goalscorer and I want to score 15 goals. I have 12, which is already better than last year. I have worked a lot and there is a big difference with the Sakala of three years ago.”

Oostende’s sporting director Gauthier Ganaye revealed last week that they had been left frustrated with Sakala’s agent after receiving no response to their contract offers.

However, it seems whatever impasse that led to a halt in negotiations has been resolved. Whether Rangers were actually ever seriously considering signing the 23-year-old, we may never know.

Manager Steven Gerrard does have a fair number of options up front, including Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe but Sakala could have been targeted as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos.
