Rangers Star Feels Vindicated As Summer Move Pays Off With International Call Up

Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo feels he made the right decision to join the Scottish club in the summer after making his breakthrough at international level.

The 23-year-old scored on his debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Ukraine earlier this month and his boss Gernot Rohr has confirmed that he’ll be included when the Super Eagles face Brazil in October.

Speaking about his rapid rise to prominence on the international stage, Aribo credits the higher profile of playing for Rangers as a major factor:

“I didn’t think international recognition would come so soon but it shows the stature of Rangers and why it was a good decision to come here. The manager watched the game and congratulated me on my debut goal against Ukraine.”

“I wouldn’t say it was much of a step up from Rangers but it was good to play against opponents like that because Ukraine have a lot of top players. And it was very good news to be called up to the Nigeria squad again. I’m happy I was able to do enough in the last game to earn a recall.”

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer questioned Aribo’s ambition when he opted to leave the Addicks for Ibrox in the summer. Some down south were questioning whether Scottish football would be detrimental to his development as a footballer, but if anything, the opposite has been the case.

With manager Steven Gerrard, the Nigerian has a perfect role model to learn from, while he is also getting experience of European competitions by playing in the Europa League.
