Rangers Set To Miss Out With South American Ace On The Verge Of 3M Transfer

Rangers are expected to miss out on America De Cali winger Santiago Moreno with reports in Colombia claiming a move to MLS is on the cards.

Portland Timbers and Atlanta United are both believed to have made bids in the $3m (£2.2m) to $4m (£3m) range for the 21-year-old, with Portland thought to be the heavy favourites to sign the player.

Moreno was first linked with a move to Rangers in May but, at the time, it was believed that it would take around £5m to sign the winger. It seems his price tag has gone down since then.

The Colombian was expected to play against Junior FC at the weekend but his manager, Juan Carlos Osorio, confirmed he did not pick him for the league match as the midfielder claimed he was not in the right frame of mind.

Moreno is more often than not utilised as a right-winger, and he would have strengthened an area of the pitch where manager Steven Gerrard is short of options, but it seems he will be plying his trade in the MLS this season.
