Rangers are set to sign former England international shot-stopper Jack Butland, according to a report from the Scottish Sun.
Butland’s contract at his parent club, Crystal Palace, is set to expire in the summer – as such, the Gers will be able to snap him up without paying a fee if they can agree to a deal with the 30-year-old.
He is currently on loan at Manchester United – however, Butland has yet to make an appearance in any capacity for the Red Devils. He was primarily brought in to provide backup for David De Gea – as the Spaniard has had no problems with injury or suspensions, they have not needed to call upon the former Stoke City man.
Despite his inactivity, Butland would be a great signing for Rangers. He is prone to mistakes, but he can also pull off some genuinely spellbinding saves.
Rangers’ current first-choice ‘keeper, Allan McGregor, is now 41 years of age. Additionally, his contract runs out in June – as such, Butland would be a great replacement for the Scottish stalwart.
Butland began his career at Birmingham City, making 29 appearances for the Blues, before moving to Stoke in 2013. He spent seven years with the Potters, but never really materialised into the world-class goalkeeper that many thought he could’ve been. A move to the Ibrox could provide a much-needed shot in the arm for Butland’s career.
