Rangers’ Pursuit Of Ex Arsenal Star Ends As He Joins New Club

Former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere has joined Bournemouth on a six-month deal, the English Championship side have confirmed.

Rangers were heavily linked with the 28-year-old following his departure from West Ham on a free transfer back in October but the former England international has been training with the Cherries for a number of weeks.

Wilshere did respond to speculation about a possible move to Ibrox in November but he said he hadn’t had any contact with the Scottish club regarding a switch north of the border.

In any case, the midfielder’s poor injury record and salary demands would probably have made any deal for him difficult to complete. On top of that, manager Steven Gerrard already has a number of midfielders at his disposal.

The Gers boss has confirmed in recent days that the club have opened talks with Steven Davis about extending his stay beyond the end of the season. The Northern Irishman’s current deal expires in June.
