Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy is keen to stay at the Magpies and sign a new contract, according to The Chronicle.

The Newcastle based newspaper claims the 26-year-old wants to remain at St James’ Park as he is a supporter of the club, and his agent is trying to get him an extension to his current deal.

Murphy’s contract at Newcastle expires in 2022, and it had led to speculation that the likes of Rangers, Southampton and Watford were looking to take advantage of the situation.

A £3m asking price had been reportedly set for the Englishman but it seems that figure is unlikely to be enough, especially if the Premier League club are now interested in keeping the player.

Whether the Light Blues actually need another winger, it is up for debate. Ryan Kent has excelled on the left flank while the likes of Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe have done a more than adequate job on the other wing.
