Rangers Planning To Buy Out South American Star’s Contract Who “Models Himself After Paul Pogba”

Rangers will have to buy out the last six months of Jose Cifuentes’s contract at Los Angeles FC, according to reports in the Scottish media.

It has been reported that the Gers are in advanced talks to sign the Ecuadorian international but there appears to be one final obstacle to securing the midfielder’s services.

As the MLS is played during the summer months, contracts expire at the end of the year, rather than in June, so if Rangers boss Michael Beale wants to snap up Cifuentes now, rather than wait until January, a fee of some sort will be needed.

The 24-year-old is believed to be keen on moving to Europe, and he was actually linked with Old Firm rivals Celtic a few years back, but the Light Blues are now favourites for his signature.

Who is Jose Cifuentes?

He came through the ranks at Ecuadorian side CD Universidad Católica before moving to the United States in January 2020.

The midfielder has been compared to his international teammate, Moises Caicedo, but Transfermarkt journalist Benedikt Duda says he “models himself after Paul Pogba”, the former Manchester United midfielder.
