“He’s Had A Phenomenal Career” – Arteta Gives His Backing To New Rangers Manager

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has wished new Rangers head coach Philippe Clement the best of luck in improving the Old Firm club’s fortunes.

The Gunners boss played for the Gers for 2 years and he keeps a close eye on his former team. Asked at a press conference on Friday about Clement’s appointment, Areta said the Belgian has the track record to get the Light Blues competing for trophies:

“I wish him the best and hopefully he can deliver what he has in other clubs because he’s had a phenomenal career already. I wish him all the best and hopefully, he can get the club back to where we want.”

Clement has won 3 Belgian Pro League titles as a manager and Arteta is clearly hoping that the 49-year-old can replicate that success in Scotland.

The new Rangers boss is looking to unlock the squad’s “potential”

The changes that Michael Beale made to the first-team squad in the summer have been widely criticised by supporters, with very few of the club’s new signings making an impact at the start of the season.

Clement has, however, been studying his new squad and he believes that he can get the most out of this group of players:

“There are things to improve but there’s also a lot of potential. Of course, when you step into a project you see there are things that you can make better and that there is potential to grow. For me it is clear, with this team we can grow. With this club we can grow in the months and years ahead.”

Clement’s first test is against an in-form team

Rangers will be taking on Hibernian this weekend and they will be going up against a side who have not lost under manager Tim Montgomery.

With the game being at Ibrox, though, the home side will be favourites to secure the three points.
