Rangers On Alert With Potential McGregor Replacement Now Expected To Become Free Agent

The Ibrox Stadium.

Schalke expect Martin Fraisl to leave on a free transfer this summer with a contract extension “not in sight” according to the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung.

The German newspaper reports that the Austrian is “unlikely” to remain at the Geltins-Arena beyond the end of the season, with his club having started a search for his replacement.

Fraisl has been tipped for a move to Rangers, with the club seeking a potential successor to current number one Allan McGregor.

It was claimed earlier this month that the Scottish champions had offered the 28-year-old a two-year deal but it was later clarified that the Gers have not firmed up their interest in the shot-stopper.

Fraisl is believed to be on a shortlist of options that the club are considering as they look to strengthen their options in goal. Whether this latest update on his contract will tempt Rangers into making a move for the player, we shall have to wait and see.
