Rangers Named As One Of Three Clubs Chasing Deal For Claudio Marchisio

Rangers are interested in former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, according to RMC Sport in France. The Gers are said to be battling Ligue One side Monaco and Brazilian outfit Flamengo.

The 33-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving previous club Zenit St Petersburg in June and can still be signed despite the transfer window now being closed.

Marchisio has 55 caps for Italy and made 389 appearances for Juve but has struggled with injuries in the latter stages of his career. Monaco are believed to be favourites to sign the Italian after holding talks with the player earlier this week.

Considering the sheer volume of central midfielders that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has at his disposal, signing Marchisio would be a massive surprise. Even though he still has a good amount of ability and a great deal of experience, it would add another body to the squad in an area where they are already over-encumbered.
