Rangers Lining Up ‘Shock’ Move For Egyptian Ace With Gerrard Having “Sent A Delegate” To Begin Talks

Rangers are interested in signing Zamalek forward Mostafa Mohamed, according to TV pundit Haytham Farouk. The former Egyptian international was quoted as saying that manager Steven Gerrard had flown over a representative to discuss a transfer:

“I know for a fact Mohamed has options in European football most notably from Glasgow Rangers. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has already sent a delegate from his club to speak with him. They were attracted to him because of his performances in the Under 23s Cup of Nations.”

The Scottish Sun say the Gers are closing in on a “shock” move for the Egyptian striker but it remains to be seen if Farouk’s information on Mohamed is accurate.

Rangers could certainly do with a third main forward, with Kyle Lafferty having had his contract terminated in the summer, but Mohamed would certainly be a left-field choice.

He is 22 years of age but has only played 12 times for Zamalek, with the majority of his playing career having been spent on loan spells away from his parent club.

As well as reportedly impressing Gers scouts in the Under 23 African Cup of Nations, he also made his debut for Egypt’s senior side earlier this year, coming on against Niger in an AFCON qualifier back in March.
