Rangers Lining Up Bargain Deal For Congolese Ace Who Once Cost 15M

Rangers are weighing up whether to sign Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga on a free transfer, according to reports in England.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in June, and Boro are unable to meet the player’s wage demand so the forward is expected to leave the Riverside Stadium at the end of the season.

Assombalonga does have a pretty prolific record in the lower leagues of English football, having bagged 131 goals in his professional career. His goalscoring ability led to Middlesbrough paying a club record £15m for the Congolese international four years ago.

However, despite scoring double figures in his first three seasons with Boro, goals have begun to dry up this campaign, having managed just five in all competitions.

If he is interested in moving to Glasgow, though, Assombalonga could be worth taking a gamble on. With Alfredo Morelos angling for a move away from Ibrox and Jermain Defoe potentially leaving when his current deal expires, there could be room in the squad for another forward.
