Rangers Interested In Move For Premier League Defender – But There’s A Catch

Rangers are thought to be interested in a move for Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo, according to a report by The 4th Official on their Patreon.

While Rangers’ interest in the player appears to be concrete, a move for the player is ‘not going to happen fast’, says The 4th Official.

The Gers are in the hunt for a technically-gifted left-footed centre-back. Panzo certainly fits this billing, but they may have to play the waiting game if they want to bring him to the Ibrox Stadium this summer – even as time ticks away.

Who else, besides Rangers, are interested in a move for Jonathan Panzo?

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, ‘many’ clubs in both England and Germany are interested in a move for Jonathan Panzo. Despite this, he neglected to mention who they were – so far, Rangers are the only club who have been explicitly linked with a move for the defender.

Additionally, Panzo was very impressive whilst on loan at Coventry City last season – it would not be a surprise to see the Sky Blues make a permanent approach for the player in the transfer window.

Jonathan Panzo football career summary so far

Born in 2000 in London, Panzo joined Chelsea’s youth academy at the age of ten. He never made a senior team appearance for the Blues – instead, he opted to join AS Monaco in 2018.

While he made several impressive appearances for Monaco’s B team, he only played twice for their senior outfit. In 2020, he made the jump to fellow Ligue 1 team Dijon.

He began to display his full potential at Les Rouges – his performances ultimately earned him a move to Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window of 2022.

Despite this, he has only made one senior team appearance for Forest at the time of writing. In the 2022 summer transfer window, a whirlwind of spending occured at the City Ground, leading to him getting lost in the mix.

As such, he was moved out on loan to Coventry. He played a major role in the latter half of their campaign, which saw them reach the Championship playoff final – only to be beaten by Luton Town on penalties. Where will his next destination lie?
